Solar Panels Planned For The Auckland Museum
It's great to see our cities and councils embracing Solar energy with plans for the Auckland Museum to have its roof fitted with large Solar Panels, which will be able to generate around 77,000kWh a year - (approximately 9 times an average households annual power usage).*
They have already made some great advances in energy savings with their carbon-cutting efforts this year, saving the museum around $340,000, making for an annual electricity and gas bill around 35 per cent cheaper than three years ago. The museum also cut its carbon emissions by 365 tonnes last year. * That means ratepayers may get some savings long term as more of our cities' buildings to become cheaper to maintain.
The cost of Solar PV Panels has dropped dramatically in the last 5 years, making Solar power a more affordable energy source for homeowners, with an average cost of around $10-15,000. Much of this cost will be recouped in the first 10 years through reduced electricity costs.
Of course, there are other benefits, like the reduced carbon emissions footprint, which leaves the environment a much better place for the next generation and increases the resale value of your home. With so much sunlight in New Zealand, Solar energy really is a good choice.
