What is solar buy-back?

With solar, you can generate more electricity than you need. When that happens, any excess power can be sent back to the grid.

You’ll get paid for every kWh you export. This is known as buy-back, and it’s credited straight onto your bill.

When you install with us, we’ll design and set up a system that harnesses the sun's rays to help power your home. Plus, you’ll unlock a premium buy-back rate* - an extra 6.9c per kWh for the next 2 years.

*Premium buy-back rate: Unlock an additional 6.9c per kWh on top of our standard solar buy-back rates for 2 years. Applied to the first 500kWh sold back each billing period. Full Terms apply.

How the offer works

Mercury will apply a premium buy-back rate (an extra 6.9c per kWh) to the first 500kWh sold back each billing period - as a credit on your bill.

You’ll enjoy this premium rate for the next 2 years. Anything exported back to the grid over 500 kWh will be at the standard buy-back rate. Check out the latest buy-back rates.

Plans

Flex Rates

Rates change throughout the day, night and season. Flex Rates could be a great option if you have a battery, so you can time your power export for when rates are higher.

Flat Rates

Enjoy simplicity. Rates stay the same around the clock. If you don’t have a battery, Flat Rates may be a better choice.

1. Get your solar installed with us.
2. Leave it with Mercury. Their team will be in touch to apply this offer to your account. If you’re new, they’ll create your electricity account too. Need gas, broadband, or mobile? They can help with those too.
3. Mercury will then install an import/export meter for free, if you need one. This will record any excess solar you generate.
4. You’ll be all set to go - harnessing the suns rays to help power your home. Plus, you’ll enjoy a premium buy-back rate for the next 2 years.
